Welcome to Dash Vintage III,

Up for auction is a highly collectible and beautifully crafted C.G. Conn 472N Professional Eb Alto Clarinet. Manufactured in 1965 at the legendary Elkhart, Indiana factory, this instrument represents the peak of mid-century American woodwind engineering before production was corporate-consolidated and moved out of Indiana. Unlike modern plastic or ebonite student models, the 472N features a body meticulously turned from premium solid Grenadilla wood (African Blackwood), renowned for producing a rich, dark, and highly resonant tonal profile favored by traditional jazz ensembles and symphonic woodwind sections.

Technical Specifications & Pro Features:

• Model Lineage: Authentic Conn 472N Artist Series

• Premium Mechanics: Equipped with Conn's celebrated fully automatic double register vent mechanism. This design ensures exceptionally smooth, clear, and reliable transitions into the upper register—a feature highly prized over simpler single-vent setups.

• Serial Provenance: Serial number E3216641 is cleanly hand-stamped into the wood joints, accompanied by the factory model marking.

• Keywork & Plating: Standard Boehm system configuration with traditional silver/nickel-plated mechanical keywork and a silver-plated neck and bell flare.

Condition Report (Selling As-Is / Project Status):

This vintage horn is being sold in unrestored, "as-is" estate condition, making it an ideal acquisition for a woodwind technician, collector, or player looking for a highly rewarding restoration project.

• The Wood Body: The dense Grenadilla wood grain is in beautiful condition. While there are no noticeable cracks, there does appear to be an old banding (see 3rd from last photo).

• The Keywork: The mechanical key rods and cups are complete and move, but they exhibit natural vintage oxidation, patina, and tarnish from storage. They will require a professional cleaning and polishing.

• Pads & Action: The pads may need to be repadded before the instrument can be brought to 100% performance playability.

• Engravings: The classic "C.G. Conn Ltd. Elkhart, Ind. U.S.A." emblem is present on the metal bell.

What’s Included in the Package:

• C.G. Conn 472N Wood Alto Clarinet Body Sections

•. Original Silver-Plated Neck & Bell Assemblies

• Mouthpiece Setup: Includes vintage Henri Selmer Paris C* hard rubber (ebonite) Alto Clarinet mouthpiece. Dating to around the 1950s or 1960s, this specific mouthpiece perfectly matches the era of your 1965 C.G. Conn 472N Alto Clarinet.

• Original Vintage Conn Hardshell Case: Features the historic brass "Choice of the Artists - Conn" emblem on the front lid. The internal blue plush fabric separates each joint safely. The exterior canvas covering shows heavy cosmetic wear, scuffs, and edge peeling consistent with a 60-year-old road case, but the internal framing and latches remain structurally intact.
