Tamia – Tamia (Self-Titled / Secondtrack 4 Year Anniversary Repress / Numbered /275 / 180g 2LP / Tip-On Gatefold Jacket / Qwest Records & Rhino) – NEW/SEALED – IN HAND

📝 Item Description

You are looking at the Secondtrack 4 Year Anniversary Repress of Tamia's self-titled debut — numbered from a run of 275, pressed on 180g heavyweight vinyl across two LPs in a premium tip-on gatefold jacket, and now in hand. Secondtrack's description of the release: "Tamia's self-titled debut introduced her signature smooth vocals and classic R&B sound, featuring hits like 'So Into You' and 'Imagination.' Now pressed on vinyl for the first time by Secondtrack, this edition features 180g heavyweight vinyl and a premium tip-on gatefold jacket." Secondtrack are a label, distributor and exclusive online retailer of special edition vinyl, and this repress was issued to mark their fourth anniversary alongside Tamia's More and Mac Ayres' cloudy — all three of which sold out. Originally released April 14, 1998 through Qwest Records and Warner Bros., Tamia is the Windsor, Ontario singer's debut album and the record that established her. The story behind it is remarkable: Tamia was performing at a multiple sclerosis benefit in Aspen when she met Brenda Richie, who introduced herself after the show; Quincy Jones subsequently signed her to his Qwest label and personally selected "You Put a Move on My Heart" as the album's first single. Five singles followed across different markets, and "So Into You" has since become one of her signature songs. The album sold 416,000 copies in the United States and was certified Gold in Japan. Critics praised her vocal abilities and the strength of the ballads and midtempo R&B throughout. Thirteen tracks, including "Imagination" featuring Jermaine Dupri and a cover of "Careless Whisper."

⭐ Product Highlights

Numbered from a run of 275 — considerably tighter than the original Secondtrack pressing, which ran to 1,000 numbered copies; the anniversary repress is the scarcer of the two by a wide margin and sold out at source
Issued to mark Secondtrack's fourth anniversary — one of only three titles the label chose to repress for the occasion, alongside Tamia's More and Mac Ayres' cloudy, all of which cleared
Tamia's debut had never been on vinyl at all until Secondtrack pressed it — the album existed only on CD and cassette from 1998 until this label brought it to the format, which is why demand across both pressings has been as strong as it has
180g heavyweight across two LPs in a tip-on gatefold — tip-on jackets are hand-wrapped rather than printed directly onto card, giving the depth and edge quality associated with original 1960s and 70s pressings; Discogs owners of Secondtrack's companion Tamia release call the pressing impressive and say it sounds amazing
The album Quincy Jones signed her for — Tamia was discovered after a benefit performance in Aspen, signed to Jones's Qwest Records, and he personally chose "You Put a Move on My Heart" as her debut single; the record went on to sell 416,000 copies in the US and earn Gold certification in Japan
Home of "So Into You" — now one of Tamia's signature songs and a contemporary R&B standard, alongside "Imagination" featuring Jermaine Dupri and a reading of "Careless Whisper" that closes out a thirteen-track run
