Vintage Early 1970s Brooks Brothers Makers Red Candy Stripe Button-Down Shirt — Deadstock NWT — Size 16-3
An exceptional deadstock example of a Brooks Brothers Makers button-down shirt from the early 1970s, featuring a distinctive red-and-white candy stripe in fine all-cotton shirting.
This shirt dates to the golden age of American Ivy League clothing, when Brooks Brothers’ traditional button-down shirts were distinguished by their generous proportions, distinctive soft collars, and meticulous construction.
The shirt features Brooks Brothers’ signature soft button-down “polo” collar, a six-button front placket, chest pocket, barrel cuffs, deeply scooped shirttails, and a back box pleat. The six-button placket is characteristic of vintage Brooks Brothers shirts manufactured before the early 1990s.
The original factory stamp remains visible on the fabric, documenting the shirt’s production details and indicating that the cloth was sanforized to minimize shrinkage.
Condition: New with tags / Deadstock
This shirt is in extraordinary condition for its age. It remained in its original packaging for approximately half a century and had never been opened before I carefully unpacked it for photography, inspection, and measurements.
The original packaging pins were documented in the photographs and subsequently discarded for safety.
The shirt is nearly pristine, with the only detectable imperfection being a faint storage mark on the chest (see second-to-last photograph). This appears superficial and will likely respond to normal laundering, although no cleaning has been attempted in order to preserve the shirt’s original unworn condition.
The original Brooks Brothers hangtags, packaging, and collar supports are included. Note that that the packaging itself is somewhat torn.
The original retail price of $21.50 remains visible on the hangtags.
