Offered here from the dougfinds collection of curated fashion, accessories, clothing, collectibles, and unique gifts is this wonderfully whimsical vintage heavy cast metal cat and mouse figurine, depicting a determined cat investigating a slipper while a decidedly brave little mouse peeks through an opening near the toe.

This is one of those small decorative pieces that gets considerably better the longer you look at it. The sculptor gave the cat deeply textured fur, an expressive face and a long tail extending beyond the back of the slipper, while the tiny mouse has been tucked into the shoe with only its head and upper body exposed.

Best of all, the cat actually swivels. Its rotating mount allows the cat to be positioned looking into the opening of the slipper or turned toward the mouse, giving the otherwise static sculpture an amusing interactive quality.

Despite measuring only approximately 6½ inches long, this is a remarkably substantial piece, weighing approximately 1 lb. 6.1 oz. The cast metal construction has developed a rich dark bronze-toned surface with warm highlights and areas of natural-looking patina that beautifully emphasize the modeled details.

• Heavy cast metal construction
• Approximately 6½" long
• Approximately 1 lb. 6.1 oz.
• Detailed cat, mouse and slipper composition
• Cat rotates/swivels on its mounting point
• Rich antiqued bronze-tone finish and patina
• Four green felt pads protect the underside
• Unmarked; maker and country of origin are unknown

The composition is reminiscent of the playful animal subjects associated with Vienna Bronze-style decorative figures, although this example is unmarked and is not represented as an Austrian Vienna Bronze. Whether displayed as a small sculpture, used as a substantial desk paperweight, or added to a collection of vintage cat and mouse pieces, it has tremendous character for its compact size.
