This is an attractive Pair of George V Sterling Silver Napkin Rings. The rings are circular with waisted bodies and beaded rims. The bodies are decorated with an engraved patern of foliage to either side of blank cartouches.
The napkin rings were made in Birmingham by Rolason Brothers and date to 1912. The Rolason Brothers established their company in Vyse Street in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter in the mid-1880s. They made a wide range of small silver items for personal and table use and also registered a mark in Chester. They remained in business up until the late 1920s.
Condition is good, with just a couple of very small dings to the rims of one napkin ring plus the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 110 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each napkin ring is 4.4cm / 1.7ins in diameter and 2.3cm / 0.9ins deep. The two together weigh in at 20.1g / 0.71oz / 0.65toz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the outside back of each ring, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter u for 1919 and the R.Bs makers' mark for Rolason Brothers.
