Item Description

First Edition. The Cambrian Biography is an early and ambitious attempt to gather historical notices of notable figures among the ancient Britons, drawing on medieval chronicles, bardic tradition and antiquarian scholarship. Owen arranges his material alphabetically, offering concise accounts of princes, warriors, saints and scholars whose stories shaped early Welsh identity. Though written in a period when sources were fragmentary and often legendary, the work reflects a sincere effort to preserve names and traditions at risk of disappearing. It remains a valuable window into nineteenth-century Welsh antiquarianism and the enduring fascination with Britain’s earliest recorded figures. First Edition
