Offered here from the dougfinds collection of curated fashion, accessories, clothing, collectibles, and unique gifts is this fantastic antique Noritake hand-painted porcelain nappy dish.

A particularly attractive early Noritake piece featuring a soft mint/celadon green ground, delicate white floral centerpiece outlined and accented in gold, and an unusually detailed white border decorated with fine hand-painted gold patterning.

The deeply scalloped, almost leaf-like form terminates in a graceful applied loop handle, also highlighted in gold. Gold edging follows the entire irregular perimeter and beautifully defines the shape.

The underside carries the clearly legible red NORITAKE / M-in-Wreath / HAND PAINTED / MADE IN JAPAN backstamp associated with the Morimura era of Noritake production.

WHAT IS A “NAPPY”?
Nappy is the traditional collector's term used for this style of small, shallow handled serving dish. These were produced in numerous decorative forms and patterns and are now collected both individually and as examples of early Noritake hand-painted porcelain.

MEASUREMENTS
Approximately 5¼" across at the widest point and approximately 1½" high including the handle.

CONDITION
No chips, cracks or repairs. The porcelain remains glossy and the mint-green field and floral decoration display very nicely.

There is age-related wear and loss to portions of the gold decoration, particularly along the rim and handle/high-contact areas, along with scattered tiny marks and imperfections consistent with age and hand-finished porcelain. The underside foot shows expected shelf wear.

The desirable red M-in-Wreath Noritake/Morimura backstamp remains unusually crisp and clearly legible.
