Antique Victorian edition of The Arabian Nights’ Entertainments, published by George Routledge and Sons, London, in 1866.

Described on the title page as “A New Edition, in One Volume”, this substantial volume contains many of the best-known Arabian Nights tales, including Aladdin or The Wonderful Lamp, Ali Baba and the Forty Robbers, and numerous other stories.

Bound in original green cloth with blind-stamped decoration to the boards and gilt title lettering to the spine. Includes an engraved frontispiece and runs to 746 pages.

A very attractive early Victorian edition with plenty of character, but this is a worn reading/collecting copy rather than a fine copy.

Condition shows considerable age and use. The green cloth has rubbing, marks and wear, particularly around the corners and spine ends. There is foxing and age-toning internally. The inner binding/hinges are significantly weakened and split in places, with visible separation between sections and the text block/binding. Pages nevertheless remain present and the volume can still be handled and read with care. Please study all photographs as they form an important part of the condition description.
