Description

This antique Waite, Thresher Co. sterling silver thimble has a beautifully crisp honeycomb dimple field, set above two engraved scrolling borders that give the simple sewing form an especially decorative finish. The smooth lower band is stamped size 10, while the darkened recesses bring out the repeating scrollwork and the dense geometric texture of the working surface.

Waite, Thresher & Co. was a Providence, Rhode Island, maker active from 1884 to 1928 and is well known to collectors for sterling silver thimbles and sewing accessories. Its thimbles are documented with a star trademark used with the STERLING mark.

Marked STERLING with the Waite, Thresher & Co. star trademark inside and size 10 on the exterior.
