This vintage Navajo sterling silver pin is cut as a scalloped oval in the form of a concho and covered edge to edge in deep hand stamping. A central almond-shaped panel with stacked diamonds sits inside a ring of zigzag stamps, flanked on each side by zigzag arrow forms and small cross stamps.
Fan-shaped arcs of radiating lines follow every scallop around the border, set off by a ring of round dot stamps. The stamping is struck deeply enough to show in relief on the back of the pin.
Dense die stamping on a scalloped concho form, made without a hallmark or sterling mark, is typical of Navajo pins made for the trading post market in the mid-twentieth century.
The pin is unsigned and unmarked; the silver tests as sterling silver. The handwritten 22 in marker on the reverse is an old inventory number rather than a maker's mark.
The deep, full-coverage stamp work makes this a fine example of classic Navajo stamped silver.
