Mountainous Wooded Landscape with a Man, Dog and Cattle before Abbey Ruins

A beautiful and atmospheric 19th-century British landscape painting by Alfred Vickers (1786–1868), depicting a mountainous wooded landscape with a picturesque abbey ruin, a figure with a dog and cattle in the foreground.

The composition combines a dramatic mountainous backdrop with a tranquil pastoral foreground, characteristic of the Romantic landscape tradition of the period. The soft atmospheric treatment of the distant mountains, woodland and sky creates a strong sense of depth and scale.

The painting is signed and presented in an attractive ornate gilt frame.

The reverse and condition images show evidence of previous conservation work.
