Circular Targe shaped pendant necklace featuring a large, disc-shaped slice of black banded agate. This necklace is made from an antique Scottish Targe shaped brooch that has been converted into a necklace.
The targe is a large, polished targe-shaped agate disc (also known as a Pi stone). It displays deep black coloration with subtle, concentric banded rings visible under the polished surface, which is characteristic of natural chalcedony/agate.
The gemstone is encased in a minimalist silver bezel frame original to the former brooch that wraps around the outer edge. The inner donut hole is also lined with a matching silver ring, reinforcing the clean geometric design. The pendant hangs from a bright silver cable link chain equipped with a lobster clasp closure.
A targe is a traditional strapped circular shield used by Scottish Highlanders and Gaelic-Irish clans from the late 16th century until the Battle of Culloden in 1746.
The targe measures approximately 1.75 inches in diameter and is suspended from a 16 inch chain. The clasp is marked 750 as shown in photos. Collectively the necklace weighs approximately 10 grams.
