This signed Max Calladitto Navajo men's ring is a substantial piece of work, with two turquoise stones set side by side in sawtooth bezels against a deep, darkened shadowbox. Applied silver leaves with crisp stamped veining sweep out to either side, while coiled wire scrolls and hand-formed silver drops fill the space around the stones. A hand-filed scalloped border frames the entire face, and the heavy split shank carries the design down each side of the band.
The turquoise is bright blue with black spiderweb matrix and small flecks of pyrite. The stones show a strong visual match to Kingman turquoise from Arizona, which is known for this combination of blue color, black matrix, and pyrite, but the mine is unconfirmed.
Max Calladitto is a Navajo silversmith whose MAX C. hallmark is documented in Native American hallmark references. The Calladitto name is closely associated with Navajo silverwork from the Prewitt, New Mexico area, where silversmiths Michael and Rosita Calladitto are also based. Documented Max Calladitto pieces include turquoise and coral rings and cuff bracelets, and his men's rings are known for this same combination of sawtooth-bezel turquoise, applied leaves, coiled wire, and silver drops.
Signed MAX C. inside the band; the silver tests as sterling silver.
The paired stones, full leaf-and-scroll silverwork, and signed MAX C. hallmark make this a strong example of classic Navajo men's jewelry.
