Interesting old canvas decoy from J.W. Reynolds in Forest Park Illinois. Circa 1904-1909. Here is a short bio about this interesting company:
History and Design
- Maker: James W. Reynolds operated his decoy factory in Chicago and Forest Park, Illinois.
- Innovation: He became famous for creating lightweight, folding wooden duck decoys (often marketed as Illinois River folding or V-board decoys).
- Construction: These collapsible sets were typically built with one hen positioned between two drakes. James Reynolds personally hand-painted many of these wooden birds, giving them exceptional artistic detail.
- Purpose: The folding design allowed hunters to easily pack and carry multiple decoys into the marsh compared to heavy, solid wooden blocks.
- Your decoy is the Automatic Canvas Decoy Duck (commonly marketed by J.W. Reynolds as the "Veri-Good" model).
