A charming vintage Scandinavian porcelain figurine depicting a young girl in a blue hooded coat, gently looking down at birds at her feet. This evocative and tender scene is typical of mid-20th-century Nordic ceramic design, combining innocence, storytelling, and restrained colour.
The figure stands approximately 15 cm tall and is beautifully modelled, with soft facial features, subtle pastel tones, and a calm, reflective pose. Originally, two birds were present at the base, enhancing the gentle narrative of the piece.
This figurine was stored for many years and comes from a private collection, recently rediscovered. It displays clear age-related character consistent with its decades of history.
This piece was produced by Søholm Keramik (often written Soholm), located on the Danish island of Bornholm. Søholm was founded in 1835 and became internationally recognised during the 20th century for its high-quality artistic ceramics, particularly figurines and decorative wares.
The base is marked “Bornholm Søholm Danmark – Made in Denmark”, along with the model number 797 / 2.
797 identifies the specific design
2 denotes the size variant
These marks firmly place production in the mid-20th century, most commonly dated between the 1930s and 1950s, a period when Søholm expanded beyond stoneware into finely modelled porcelain and earthenware figurines for export.
Søholm figurines often focused on everyday childhood moments and quiet domestic scenes, making them especially popular in post-war Europe. Their restrained colour palette and gentle themes are hallmarks of Scandinavian modern design and remain highly collectible today.
One of the original birds is missing
