Item: US Army USMC Marine WW2 Colt 1911 .45 Enger-Kress M-1916 Leather Pistol Holster
Markings: Bears the classic oval "US" stamping with serifs at the front flap, and is marked at the upper back with its maker, the famous "ENGER-KRESS".
Condition: This holster is in Very Good Plus Condition. Some light overall scuffing, scratching, wrinkling, and spot darkening. Some verdigris to the darkened brass hardware throughout. Boasts a fully functional darkened brass stud closure front flap, sports a fully intact darkened brass wire hanger at the upper back, and carries the original sewn leather "block" inside. This is among the finer examples of these holsters we've been able to offer for sale in some time.
Historical Background: The Colt 1911 .45 semi-automatic pistol was developed for the US Army after the .38 revolver failed to stop charging Moro warriors in the Philippines. The US Army issued the powerful .45 during WW2, and it was most often carried in a rugged leather holster worn on the pistol belt. We have shown a photo of a US Navy Seabee in WW2 wearing a similar .45 holster on the right side of his pistol belt.
