Vintage Navajo Storm Pattern Rug
A large Navajo weaving dating to the 1980s, featuring the classic Storm Pattern design in a striking palette of gray, black, ivory and red.
The Storm Pattern is one of the best-known designs in Navajo weaving and is traditionally organized around a central geometric element connected by stepped or zigzag forms to elements at the four corners. The design became widely established during the early 20th century and has continued to be interpreted by generations of Navajo weavers.
This example is especially impressive for its substantial size and highly detailed, balanced composition, with numerous stepped, serrated and geometric motifs throughout the field and border.
