"Why don't we make Shiomi Academy even more fun?"

Had she eaten something bad? That was the thought that crossed my mind when she—Tsugumi Shirasaki—said those words.

There had been no lead-up to it. In fact, I didn't even know her before that moment. She had simply blurted it out of the blue.

"If that's what you want to talk about, you really ought to take it up with the Student Council..."

Those words had been right on the tip of my tongue, but I—Kyotaro Kakei—had a bad habit of swallowing them back down.

"If you let sentiment sway you, you'll be swept away"—a line from a famous novel—perfectly described my state of mind a short while later.

Drifting all the way down the river until I reached the estuary, I found myself surrounded by others who had been swept along just like me.

Tamamo Sakuraba, Senri Misono, Kana Suzuki, Ikkai Takamine, and—for some reason—Nagi Kodachi, who just happened to wander by.

The clubroom, once the perfect sanctuary for reading, was now no different from a classroom during lunch break.

"Um, regarding today's activity... at the cafeteria..."

Tsugumi Shirasaki spoke the words I had heard so many times before. "Oh, by the way, have you tried the new menu at the cafeteria?"

"Oh, did that catch your eye too, Kana-chan? She’s cute, isn't she? I’ve always had a thing for slender girls."

"Don't change the subject. And Takamine—Suzuki wasn't talking about the waitress, and nobody cares about your type. For starters..."

"Tamamo-chan, the conversation is drifting even further off track... Look, Misono-san is giving us a scary look."

"She's glaring at us. So, Kakei-senpai, we need a punchline right now that’ll really wake us up."

"No, that’s got nothing to do with anything."

And so begins another day of activities filled with endless detours...
