Antique 1903 Ruthenian / Carpatho-Rusyn Biblical Stories – Lviv & New York Connection Offered is an uncommon antique religious book titled “Библійныя Повѣсти изъ старого и нового Завѣта” — approximately Biblical Stories from the Old and New Testaments. Dated 1903. This is an especially interesting example of early Ruthenian/Carpatho-Rusyn religious publishing and the transatlantic immigrant book trade. The publication information references authorization by the Greek Catholic Metropolitan Ordinariate in Lviv (Lwów/Lemberg), an important cultural and religious center of historic Galicia, now in Ukraine. The book also bears the fascinating American bookseller information: Книгарня им. Наумовича V. M. Broda 112 E. 7th St., New York, N.Y. The Naumovich name is associated with the Galician-Rusyn priest, writer and cultural figure Ivan/Ioann Naumovich (1826–1891). His writings and name continued to have a presence among Ruthenian/Carpatho-Rusyn communities, including immigrant communities in the United States. Printed using historic Cyrillic/Ruthenian orthography characteristic of the period. Approximately 8" x 5½".
