Up for sale is a fascinating 1976 Italy 100 Lire stainless steel coin featuring a prominent, textbook Struck-Through Grease (Filled Die) Mint Error.
Error Details & Condition: • The Error: This coin was struck by a die that had heavy machine grease and debris packed into the recessed design details. As a result, the metal was blocked from fully filling the die, causing parts of the design to show an incredibly weak, faded, and smooth lack of definition under magnification, while the outer rims remain sharp. You can still see some of the grease remaining under magnification.
• Grade Profile: Overall coin details sit in an attractive About Uncirculated (AU55) state with bright original steel luster and sharp outer rims.
• Collector Appeal: This is a beautiful educational example of how heavy factory lubricants affected high-speed Italian coin production in the mid-1970s.
Shipping: Fast and FREE shipping! The coin pictured is the exact item you will receive. It will be safely packaged and shipped inside a protective 2x2 cardboard coin flip.
Please review all high-resolution microscope photos to see the grease-faded details. there was no need to try to take any pictures of the bust itself. It's so faint, you can't even see it under magnification.
