ENGLISH SCHOOL, 19TH CENTURY

Portrait of a Seated Lady in a Red Velvet Bodice

A charming 19th-century English School portrait depicting an elegantly dressed seated lady, shown in a richly detailed white dress with a striking deep red velvet bodice and delicate lace and jewellery.

The sitter is portrayed seated in an upholstered chair against a softly atmospheric landscape and dark interior background. The artist has paid particular attention to the textures of the lace, velvet, jewellery and flowing fabric, creating a refined and intimate portrait characteristic of 19th-century portrait painting.

Oil on mahogany panel, presented in an attractive period-style gilt and carved wooden frame.
