Description

This vintage Kinney Company Chi Omega ring has wonderful collegiate character, with rich cardinal enamel at the center and paired owl motifs worked into the shoulders. The design uses Chi Omega's own symbolic vocabulary rather than sports imagery: the owl is the Fraternity's enduring emblem of wisdom, while the X-and-horseshoe device echoes the Chi and Omega notation seen in historic Chi Omega imagery. The compact signet form and crisp relief give the ring the substantial, emblematic look associated with Kinney's mid-century institutional jewelry.

The Kinney Company of Providence, Rhode Island, was founded around 1907 and became a specialist in emblematic jewelry, producing rings, pins, and insignia for schools, clubs, military organizations, and commercial clients. A documented Kinney sterling ring marked KINNEY STERLING dates to circa 1947-48, placing this style of enamel institutional ring squarely within the company's mid-century production.
