This is an especially interesting New Orleans subject. The historic building at 417 Royal Street dates to approximately 1795 and was once occupied by the Banque de la Louisiane. The Morphy family acquired the property in 1841, and it became the home of legendary New Orleans chess prodigy Paul Morphy, who lived there until his death in 1884. The property later became the Patio Royal restaurant and is now the historic home of Brennan's Restaurant.
The drawing shows the Royal Street architecture in detailed black ink, including the balconies, arched windows, street, courtyard entrance and large palm tree.
Presented under glass with a silver-tone metal frame and decorative linear matting.
Approximate overall framed size:
19" wide x 15.5" tall
The reverse retains a Mory's Custom Framing label from Brookings, Oregon.
