This wide-angle lens combines styling reminiscent of legendary classic lenses with optical performance suited to modern camera equipment. Classic Exterior
The design evokes legendary lenses released in the 1950s (or the early 1970s for the Type II). Constructed entirely of metal, the lens offers a premium feel and tactile operation, providing the pride of ownership that comes with a fine lens.
Modern Lens Design
Designed with digital cameras in mind, the lens features an optical configuration of 8 elements in 5 groups, incorporating measures to prevent color cast at the image periphery. It maintains excellent image quality on both film and digital cameras.
Minimum Focusing Distance of 0.58m
Focusing is possible down to 0.58m, extending beyond the 0.7m minimum distance typically coupled with the rangefinder mechanism. This capability proves particularly effective when shooting with cameras equipped with live-view functions.
Focusing Knob (Type I) for Quick Shooting
Focusing can be performed using either the distance ring or the focusing knob. Touching the knob allows you to intuitively sense the distance setting, making it highly effective for snapshot photography.
Focusing Lever (Type II) for Excellent Operability
The focusing lever features a shape that provides a secure grip, supporting quick and precise focusing operations.
Optional Bayonet-Mount Lens Hood
An optional bayonet-mount lens hood (LH-12) is available; it is made of aluminum and features a high-quality wrinkle finish renowned for its classic look and feel. (The LH-4N hood is also compatible.)
Manual Focus for Precise Control
A smooth focusing experience is achieved through the use of a high-precision, all-metal helicoid unit and high-quality grease that provides just the right amount of torque, enabling fine, precise focus adjustments.
Bayonet-style VM Mount
The lens utilizes the VM mount, which is compatible with the Leica M mount. It is designed not only for use with rangefinder-coupled cameras but also to maintain excellent aesthetic balance when attached to mirrorless digital cameras via a mount adapter.
