Genuine Papua New Guinea (Sepik District)

A beautiful, hand-carved vintage tribal wooden mask from the renowned Sepik River region of Papua New Guinea.

About 14 “ tall.

Dating to the mid 20th century, this elongated mask features a deeply stylized ancestral face carved from rich, dark wood. The eyes are beautifully inlaid with traditional white cowrie shells, and the upper section is decorated with striking geometric tribal motifs.

This piece was originally produced as a high-quality decorative export item during the mid-century Oceanic art boom. The reverse side features a completely flat, machine-sanded back designed to sit flush against a wall for easy display, complete with a pre-drilled hanging hole and its original vintage "Sepik District" paper export label.

A fantastic, authentic statement piece for collectors of ethnographic art, Tiki culture, or mid-century bohemian home decor.

The mask is in excellent vintage structural shape with no cracks or missing shells. It retains a lovely, soft patina to the dark wood. There is minor, age-appropriate light scuffing on the flat reverse side.
