American Bisque Co (ABCo)
GRACEFUL SWAN Planter
7.25" x 5" Air-brushed Glaze (c 1960s)
I believe this air brushed swan planter was made by American Bisque Company (ABCo), and I believe it likely dates to the 1960s or 1970s. It lacks the detail of earlier swan planters made by ABCo but makes up for it with the dramatic airbrushed glaze in rosy red, pale yellow, and greenish-blackk. It has a white body and interior, with dark head and tail, and measures 5 inches high at the arched neck, 7.25 inches long, and 3.5 inches wide across the wings. The "Graceful Swan" design is shown on page 36 of the "American Bisque Collector's Guide" (Giacomini).
The planter is in very good to excellent condition. There are no chips or cracks that I can see. Most surprising, I don't see any sign of crazing. There are some uneven areas of glazing around the tail, which are original to manufacture.
The bottom is not marked, but shows the wedgy feet one expects to see on American Bisque products.
