Description

This substantial James Frappe ring centers a rounded rectangular green porphyry cabochon, its pale green crystals standing out against a deep forest-green ground. A clean raised bezel meets broad shoulders accented with curved silver overlays and circular details, giving the ring the bold mid-century presence of Frappe's studio work.

James Frappe (1921-2016) was a Pittsburgh jeweler, enamelist, and sculptor who studied and later taught at Carnegie Mellon. He was named Pittsburgh Center for the Arts Artist of the Year in 1959 and became an important figure in the city's mid-century craft community. His jewelry is known for bold construction, unexpected material combinations, and a distinctly American studio aesthetic.
