Up for sale is a fantastic piece of American logging history: an authentic, vintage Kelly Axe Mfg. Co. single-bit axe head in the highly sought-after Jersey pattern.
This head features the clear, legible factory stamp reading: "KELLY AXE MFG. CO. / CHARLESTON W. VA. U.S.A." dating its production between 1904 and 1930. Pre-WWII Charleston-stamped tools are highly prized by collectors for their superior steel and historical value.
Condition Report:
• Stamp: Clear and easily readable (see close-up macro photo).
• Bit/Edge: The cutting edge has plenty of life left, maintaining a thick profile without being over-sharpened into a stub.
• Poll/Back: Shows typical signs of field use, including visual deformation and mushrooming from historical striking.
• Surface: Features a dark, authentic patina with expected age-related surface pitting. It has not been heavily ground down, preserving its vintage character.
This is an excellent candidate for a historical restoration project, a handle-hanging worker, or as a display piece in a vintage tool collection.
