Lieutenant Royal Engineers 15th July 1868, Captain 11th May 1881, Major 1st October 1887, Lieutenant Colonel 7th July 1894, Brevet Colonel 7th July 1898, Colonel 1st March 1901 and retired 16th June 1904.
Service overseas in India 14th November 1870 to 10th December 1877, Malta 15th October 1881 to 7th July 1882, Egypt 8th July 1882 to 26th September 1882, Malta 27th September 1882 to 27th January 1887 and Egypt 9th November 1889 to 30th September 1892.
Mentioned in General Order issued by the Governor of India dated 30th April 1872 Number 480 promulgated in the London Gazette 21st June 1872 for his services with the Looshai Expeditionary Force. Served as Field Engineer and Officer Commanding Number 3 Company Bengal Sappers and Miners under Brigadier General Sir C H Brownlow.
In Egypt in 1882 He was in Command of 17th Company Royal Engineers under Sir A Alison, KCB and afterwards in charge of works under Sir E Hamley and Sir E Wood, KCB, 3rd Division.
Colonel Hyslop died on 7th April 1924 at his home 3 Herbert Road, Bournemouth.
These are late issue replacement Medals with impressed naming (originals would be engraved). The Medal rolls record replacements were issued on 7th October 1922.
Colonel Hyslop's son Captain Alexander Henry Maxwell Hyslop Royal Navy was awarded the George Cross (Exchange for his Albert Medal).
