A developing tank, photo tank, film tank is a light-tight cylindrical tank with a lid, designed for chemical and photographic processing of photographic materials. Allows you to process photographic materials in the light, both in a darkened darkroom and in unsuitable rooms. Charging the tank with photographic material can also be done in the field using a charging sleeve.
The most widely used tanks are for processing photographic and film films in amateur conditions. In them, the film is placed on detachable reels, fixed by two or one guide spiral.
The spiral is made in such a way as to ensure an evenly equal distance between the turns of the film and to prevent the turns from sticking together. In combination with the rotation of the coil, this ensures a uniform supply of the processing solution to the photographic emulsion.
