For sale is a beautiful, vintage Japanese cast iron (metal) Noh mask depicting "Ko-omote". While traditional Noh masks are carved from wood, this piece is crafted from solid cast iron, giving it a remarkable weight, rich texture, and elegant antique presence. The mask is approx. 21cm (8 1/4") long, 14cm (5 1/2") wide and it weighs 900 grams.
The Ko-omote mask represents a young, beautiful, and serene woman. It is one of the most iconic characters in Noh theater. The surface features detailed facial features with a smooth, classic finish, and the reverse side showcases the robust texture characteristic of high-quality Japanese ironwork.
The New-Old-Stock mask is in good-very good overall vintage condition. It is well-preserved with a beautiful patina and minimal signs of wear. There may be a hard to see minor nick(s), mark(s), scuff(s), wear, etc. Please inspect all photographs closely to confirm the exact condition before purchasing.
The mask comes with its original paper box labeled "能面 小面" and a display cord. It is highly recommended as an indoors or outdoors hanging decoration, or a unique collector's item. The original paper box shows aging, wear, and visible tape marks/residue from previous storage, as shown in the photographs.
