DevPurple - Ultimate 7-Zip Pack

ULTIMATE 7-ZIP PACK

Every release the 7-Zip project publishes, for Windows, macOS and Linux, on one disc. The current stable release, four earlier Windows lines, the Windows on Arm build, four Linux builds, the Mac build that runs on both processors, the source code, and the manual.

7-Zip packs files into one archive and unpacks them again, and it reads far more formats than the archiver built into Windows. ZIP and GZIP compressions come out 2-10 % smaller than PKZip and WinZip produce, and its own 7z format with LZMA2 goes further still. Install it once and a submenu appears in the right-click menu, so files are packed and unpacked where they are. This disc carries every release line for Windows, macOS and Linux, with the complete source code and the manual.

What You Can Do With It

  • Pack and unpack seven formats: 7z, XZ, BZIP2, GZIP, TAR, ZIP and WIM.
  • Unpack thirty more: APFS, AR, ARJ, CAB, CHM, CPIO, CramFS, DMG, EXT, FAT, GPT, HFS, IHEX, ISO, LZH, LZMA, MBR, MSI, NSIS, NTFS, QCOW2, RAR, RPM, SquashFS, UDF, UEFI, VDI, VHD, VHDX, VMDK, XAR and Z. The Linux and Mac builds list Base64 and ZSTD as well.
  • Encrypt with AES-256: in the 7z and ZIP formats, with the file names inside the archive encrypted too.
  • Build self-extracting archives: a single .exe that unpacks itself on a machine with no archiver installed.
  • Work from the file list: 7-Zip adds a submenu to the Windows right-click menu, so packing and unpacking happen where the files are.
  • Browse inside an archive: the File Manager opens an archive as a folder, with a two-pane view for moving files in and out.
  • Script it: the command line build 7z.exe handles archives from a batch file, and the Extra archive carries a copy that needs no installation.
  • Measure the machine: the built-in benchmark reports compression and decompression speed across the methods 7-Zip supports.
  • Work in your own language: the installer carries localizations for 87 languages, so the menus and the help arrive translated.

Every Release Line On The Disc

  • Current stable, 26.03: the setup program for 64-bit Windows, for 32-bit Windows and for Windows on Arm, plus the two .msi installers.
  • The Extra package: the console build 7za.exe, the 7z library, the Far Manager plugin and the help file, in an archive that is unpacked and used without installing anything.
  • Four earlier Windows lines: 23.01, 19.00, 16.04 and 9.20, each with its own setup program, .msi installers and Extra package.
  • The 9.20 line is the only one with an Itanium build and a Windows Mobile and Windows CE build. No later release publishes either of them, and both are here.

Windows, MacOS, And Linux In One Pack

  • 64-bit Windows: 7z2603-x64.exe, the current stable release, 26.03. To check which Windows you have, open Settings, then System, then About, and read System type.
  • 32-bit Windows: 7z2603.exe, the same release built for 32-bit Windows. It runs on 64-bit Windows as well, so it is the safe choice if you are unsure.
  • Windows on Arm: 7z2603-arm64.exe, for 64-bit Windows running on an Arm processor.
  • Mac: 7z2603-mac.tar.xz and 7z2301-mac.tar.xz, each a single program that runs natively on Apple Silicon and on Intel from the same file. The 26.03 build needs macOS 26 or newer and the 23.01 build needs macOS 12 or newer, so a Mac that is not on macOS 26 yet has a build of its own.
  • Linux: four console builds, for 64-bit and 32-bit x86 and for 64-bit and 32-bit Arm, so a Raspberry Pi is covered alongside a desktop.
  • The source code: 7z2603-src.tar.xz, which builds 7-Zip for any of these systems and includes the LZMA SDK files.

The Manual Is On The Disc

The 7-Zip project publishes its manual as the Windows help file and as a set of web pages. Both forms are on this disc.

  • The manual as web pages: the folder Documentation\7-Zip Manual holds the whole manual, and start.htm opens it in any browser on any system, with nothing to install.
  • The manual as the Windows help file: 7-zip.chm is installed with the program and also travels inside the Extra archive.
  • Every command and every switch is documented, including the compression levels, the archive formats, the encryption options and the filter settings.

System Requirements

  • Windows: 26.03 is the current release. Supported: Windows 11, 10, 8, 7, Vista and XP, Windows 2000 and later, and the Windows Server family from 2003 through 2022. Four earlier Windows lines are on the disc for machines where the current release does not start.
  • Windows on Arm: the arm64 build is for 64-bit Windows running on an Arm processor.
  • Mac: macOS 26 or newer for the 26.03 build, and macOS 12 or newer for the 23.01 build.
  • Linux: 64-bit or 32-bit x86, or 32-bit or 64-bit Arm.
  • Administrator rights: needed to run the Windows installer.
  • No internet connection needed, for the program or for the manual, which is on the disc.

Why Buy From Dev Purple?

Every Release Line Included

Five Windows lines, from 9.20 to the current stable 26.03, each in the setup program, .msi and Extra form, with the Itanium and Windows Mobile builds that no later release carries.

Three Systems Covered

Windows, macOS and Linux, with four Linux console builds for x86 and Arm and a Mac build that runs natively on Apple Silicon and on Intel from a single file.

Official Releases

Every setup program, .msi, archive and source file here is the official release as published, taken from 7-Zip's own pages and its source code hosting releases.

No Subscription And No Product Key

7-Zip is released under the GNU LGPL. It can be used on any computer, including one in a commercial organization, and there is no registration.

The Source Code Is Included

The complete source for the release on the disc, which the GNU LGPL expects a distributor to provide, is in the pack alongside the programs.

eBay Compliance

This listing complies with eBay's software policy. This is a lawful compilation of redistributable software. No paid, commercial, or copyrighted software is included. Every program fits one of these categories:

  • GNU LGPL licensed: 7-Zip is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License. Most of the code is under the GNU LGPL, some parts are under the BSD 3-clause License, and some code in 7z.dll carries an unRAR license restriction. That license explicitly grants anyone the right to copy, distribute, and redistribute the software in any medium, provided the license terms are preserved. This is a core feature of copyleft licensing. The 7-Zip project also publishes the source code for every release, and that source code is included on the media.
  • Official releases, unmodified: Every file on the media is the official release as published by the 7-Zip project, unchanged. Nothing has been patched, cracked, or rebuilt.

The 7-Zip name is used here to refer to 7-Zip itself. This pack is an independent compilation and is not endorsed by or affiliated with the 7-Zip project or its author. The software box shown in any product images is a display image only and is not included. You receive the media only.

eBay's Verified Rights Owner (VeRO) program targets listings that infringe intellectual property. This listing does not fall into that category because 7-Zip's license already authorizes the copying and redistribution being done here. Buyers receive only the rights the original license grants.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this item delivered?

This is a physical item (USB drive or DVD) that will be shipped to you. Choose your format when you order.

Which file should I install?

For a current 64-bit Windows machine, run 7z2603-x64.exe. For 32-bit Windows, or if you are unsure, run 7z2603.exe, which also runs on 64-bit Windows. For Windows running on an Arm processor, run 7z2603-arm64.exe. If the current release does not start on an older machine, work back through 7z2301-x64.exe, 7z1900-x64.exe, 7z1604-x64.exe and 7z920.exe. The Read Me on the media repeats this list.

Does this work on a Mac?

Yes. The Mac builds are command line programs rather than windowed applications. There are two of them, and each one runs natively on Apple Silicon and on Intel from a single file. The 26.03 build needs macOS 26 or newer and the 23.01 build needs macOS 12 or newer. To see which Mac you have, open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac: a Chip line means Apple Silicon and a Processor line means Intel. To see the macOS version, read the same window.

Is the manual included?

Yes. The manual is on the media as a set of web pages, opened by the file Documentation\7-Zip Manual\start.htm in any browser. The same manual also travels as the Windows help file, 7-zip.chm, which is installed together with the program and is inside the Extra archive.

Is 7-Zip the same thing as the ZIP tool that comes with Windows?

No. Windows packs and unpacks ZIP files. 7-Zip handles 7z, XZ, BZIP2, GZIP, TAR, ZIP and WIM for packing and unpacking, and it reads around thirty further formats including RAR, ISO, DMG, MSI and the disk images used by virtual machines. Its own 7z format with LZMA2 compression produces smaller archives than ZIP, and it can lock an archive with AES-256 encryption.

Can I open RAR files with it?

Yes, for reading. 7-Zip unpacks RAR archives, including RAR5 in the 16.04, 19.00, 23.01 and 26.03 builds. The 9.20 build on this media reads RAR 2, RAR 3 and RAR 4 and does not read RAR5. The unRAR license that the RAR code comes under does not allow a RAR compatible archiver to be built from it, so 7-Zip reads RAR archives and does not create them.

Do I need to install it, or does it run from the disc?

The Windows programs are installed, and the whole installation is under 6 MB. If you would rather not install anything, the Extra package holds the console build 7za.exe and the 7z library, and unpacking that archive gives you a working 7-Zip without touching the system. The Linux and Mac builds are console programs that run from the folder you unpack them into and install nothing at all.

Does this software need a product key or activation?

No. 7-Zip is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License, so there is no product key, no activation step, no registration, and no account. It can be used on any computer, including a computer in a commercial organization.

Do I need to copy the pack to my computer first?

For DVD orders, copy the pack folder to your computer (for example, your Desktop) first, then run the installer from there. DVDs have much slower read speeds than USB drives, and a DVD install run directly from the disc will be slow.
