A very rare and sought after 'Hale' rocket, which replaced the outgoing 'Congreve' rocket design in the latter half of the 19th century.
In addition to British military use, these rockets were also deployed by the Confederate forces during the American Civil war.
This rocket is of the 24lb size, at 23.5" in length, by 3.5" in diameter. The rocket came from an old Victorian range, which was used for training by the Royal Navy, prior to embarking for the Crimean War.
The steel body has some small holes as pictured, but is mostly in tact, and very sturdy. The head contains a wooden transit plug (removed/loose to prove empty).
The rocket's signature tail "engine" has three clear venturi (used to impart spin), and stamps from the Royal Laboratories in Woolwich, denoting it's production as a "Mark II" variant. There is also a military broad arrow stamp to the base.
You probably won't see another of these for sale, so grab a piece of Naval history while it's available.
