Dinky Toys No.64 – Aeroplane Set – empty Box with insert card 1939-41.
A decent example of a scarce Box that once contained six diecast model Aeroplanes made by Dinky.
The lid reads Dinky Toys No.64 – Aeroplane Set and then lists the six models that were originally inside. (60g, 62h, 62k, 62m, 62s, and 63b). The Box measures 9¼” x 5½” x 1”. It has some grazing on the lid at the top right corner. A name is written in blue ink and a large cross is drawn in pencil. The underside has writing that has been crossed out in blue colouring pencil. Inside, despite my title, the box is not actually empty. It actually contains damaged / broken remains of at least five Dinky Aeroplanes. They all show metal fatigue and have snapped or even crumbled in various places. Not much good for anything as far as I can tell but rather than throw everything away I will send them with the box as there may be something that is of use – perhaps even if you want to show an aeroplane scrap yard! As far as I can see, only one of them may be one of the original models. One of the planes has two 2-blade propellors still attached. There are three loose 2-blade propellors and a three-blade one. Also some of the little pins that attach them to the planes. It still contains the original insert card that the planes were fixed onto. This is complete and clean.
