Rare fire-making tools book from 1926. This was the catalogue of exhibits at the Lighter Museum in London in 1926. Over 255 pages total. Has over 400 illustrations at the back. Book is mostly text explanations for the museums exhibits.
Exhibited at the museum were such items as flint striking fire steels, 1800's cap-lighters, the first matches from 350 years ago, ancient Viking Fire Stones (pyrites), along with primitive Fire-Drills. This book has exceptionally rare examples of firesteels and tinder boxes not found anywhere else.
The cloth binding is in good condition. Covers are a printed cardboard material. They have foxing and chipping around edges, and also water stains. I have had many previous copies of this book and this is normal.
This was meant to be a souvenir and companion manual while visiting the lighter museum in London in 1926. Much like today’s museum experience when you put on headphones that explain all the exhibits and walk around. And when a museum visitor took a book home, the pictures in the back made this book a tinder box & fire steel reference guide. Amazing!
The book dimensions are 8 3/8th by 5 3/8th inches.
