The RR1 model is inspired by John, the star of the 1948 film "RED RIVER," directed by Howard Hawks. This buckle was specially made as a gift for John Wayne, and since he wore it in numerous films after the movie Red River, it has become known as the most famous John Wayne buckle. The design, which incorporates the initials of John Wayne's nickname, Duke, and is inspired by a river, was reissued in limited quantities by Bohlen, but production has ended due to the termination of the licensing agreement, making it a highly rare and valuable model.
