Description

A characterful pair of vintage ceramic clown figurines, each standing approximately 21 cm tall.

The first clown is seated wearing oversized black shoes, a red bow tie and small top hat, which he raises cheerfully with one hand. A pearlescent glaze gives his white costume subtle rainbow reflections, while his walking cane and exaggerated footwear complete the playful design. This figure retains a partially worn Joneger Taiwan foil label.

The second clown stands beside a large cello or double bass, finished predominantly in white with gilt-painted details to his costume and instrument. His tall hat, red nose and expressive pose give him a slightly more theatrical appearance.

They complement one another attractively as a decorative pair, although they are not confirmed as an originally matched set.

Condition

Both are in used vintage condition following long-term storage. No chips, cracks or repairs have been noted.

There is age-related surface and painted-detail wear. This is most noticeable on the left seated figure, including losses and rubbing to the pearlescent finish, black shoes and other raised areas. The musician also has some wear to the gilt decoration.
