Original 1889 Windsor Hotel illustrated letterhead from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, measuring 8.5 x 11 inches. The attractive engraved hotel vignette includes the notation "Further Enlargement of 40 Rooms Extending to Sparks St." and identifies S. Daniels, Proprietor. The letter is dated May 18, 1889 and remains entirely handwritten on the front, with show-through visible on the reverse from the original writing.
The letter was written by James M. Evans to J. J. Mason & Co. of Lebanon, New Hampshire, concerning a commercial order of dry ash lumber. Evans advises that he has arranged to receive an initial shipment of 50,000 feet with another 50,000 feet to follow, discusses the balance due, pricing, shipment via the Canada Atlantic Railway, payment terms of less 2% if paid within 20 days, and asks to be contacted at Arnprior upon receipt. He also mentions plans to travel to Perth and to investigate differences involving two railroad cars sent to Boston the previous fall.
A desirable Canadian hotel letterhead with an impressive architectural illustration and detailed content relating to the nineteenth-century lumber trade and railroad freight business. Light fold wear from mailing with expected age-related toning and handling. Overall a very attractive display piece combining hotel, railroad, and lumber industry interest.
Authentic period piece related to family, history or local heritage - well-suited for historical collections, genealogical /genealogy research, or museum acquisition. Vintage or Antique.
