Description

A superb and highly unusual black-and-white photographic print produced directly from an original period negative, showing Jim Clark giving Jackie Stewart a lift back to the pits on his #12 Lotus 33-Climax during the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix.

This wonderful candid photograph captures Jackie Stewart perched on the rear of Clark's Lotus, leaning forward over Clark as they make their way back towards the pits.

The scene is independently documented in contemporary photographic archives as Jackie Stewart getting a lift from Jim Clark in the Lotus 33-Climax at Monaco in 1967.

The Monaco Grand Prix was held on 7 May 1967. Clark drove the #12 Team Lotus Lotus 33, chassis R14, powered by the 2-litre Coventry Climax V8. Stewart competed for BRM in the #4 BRM P261.

There is a good reason Stewart needed the lift. He had been running extremely strongly and actually led the Grand Prix from laps 6 to 14 before his BRM retired after 14 laps with transmission/differential trouble.

Clark continued until lap 42 before his Lotus retired with suspension trouble. He had nevertheless demonstrated the speed of the older Lotus 33 by recording the fastest lap of the race.
