Vintage Lane miniature cedar keepsake chest originally distributed through Lane’s celebrated Girl Graduate Plan. The inside lid bears the Lane name and Altavista, Virginia marking, along with a presentation stamp from:

Reliance Cedar Furniture Company
Mooresville, North Carolina

Also included is the original foldout Lane “The Love Chest” graduation mailer. The advertising promotes Lane’s full-size cedar Love Chests and pictures style 4371 in mahogany veneer, which was also offered in maple or pine veneer with Jacquard gros point fabric.

These miniature chests were presented to graduating young women through participating Lane furniture dealers. They are sometimes incorrectly called salesman samples, but they were promotional graduation keepsake gifts intended to introduce graduates and their families to Lane’s full-size cedar chest collection. Lane’s Girl Graduate Plan became especially widespread during the 1950s and 1960s. Lane Cedar Box history

The original paperwork adds meaningful history and context to this example. It displays considerable staining and foxing from age, while the printing and decorative imagery remain visible.
