Original 1855 illustrated BILLHEAD / receipt from Daniel Lothrop & Co. of Dover, New Hampshire, wholesale and retail dealers in a notably broad assortment of books, stationery, drugs, medicines and related goods.

The elaborate printed heading advertises:

Dated November 1855 at the top, with additional handwritten transaction notation dated July 24, 1855. Made out to Mr. A. H. Sawyer. Entries appear to include Ess. Peppermint, Spruce, and another medicinal item. The reverse bears additional period handwriting, including Daniel Lothrop.

A particularly attractive piece of mid-19th-century New Hampshire commercial ephemera combining the book trade, publishing/bookselling, pharmacy, patent medicine and stationery businesses on one ornate document.

Measures approximately 5 x 7.75 inches.
