⭐ EX- 1997 Flying Pikachu Glossy CoroCoro Promo
This card is the original Flying Pikachu (そらをとぶピカチュウ), released as a promotional insert in the November 1997 issue of CoroCoro Comic.
Illustrated by Toshinao Aoki, this cheerful artwork became the origin of every Flying Pikachu released in later years, including the famous ANA promotional cards.
⸻
⭐ The Original Flying Pikachu
Among Pikachu collectors, this is widely recognized as the very first Flying Pikachu.
Long before anniversary products and modern reprints, this charming illustration introduced the concept of Pikachu floating through the sky with colorful balloons.
Because of its historical significance, it remains one of the most iconic Japanese vintage Pikachu promos.
⸻
⭐ Genuine Glossy Version
This is the Glossy (光沢) version featuring the original smooth coating applied to CoroCoro promotional cards.
Unlike standard Pokémon cards from the same era, the glossy finish creates a noticeably brighter appearance and is officially recognized by PSA as a separate variation:
1997 Balloon Pikachu – Glossy
This special finish has become highly desirable among collectors seeking complete vintage Pikachu collections.
⸻
⭐ A Must-Have for Pikachu Collectors
Whether you collect vintage promos, CoroCoro exclusives, or iconic Pikachu artwork, this card represents an important piece of Pokémon history.
Its adorable balloon artwork and historical significance continue to make it one of the most recognizable Japanese promotional Pikachu cards ever released.

📦 Condition — MP (Moderately Played)
The condition has been evaluated conservatively based on eBay’s official trading card condition guidelines.
For a vintage Japanese Pokémon card of this age, both the front and back remain relatively clean and visually appealing overall, while showing moderate signs of previous handling and age. There are light surface scratches / hairlines, edge wear, and whitening, particularly visible around portions of the reverse border.
The lower-right corner of the card has a slight upward lift / curl, giving the corner a mildly raised appearance. This is easier to recognize from certain angles than in the straight-on photos, so dedicated “Points to Check” images have been included for clarity.
There is no major damage dominating the card’s overall appearance, but considering the accumulated surface and edge wear together with the slightly lifted lower-right corner, we have conservatively classified this card as MP (Moderately Played).
Please carefully review all photos, especially the close-up and “Points to Check” images, to evaluate the exact condition before purchasing.
The card shown in the photos is the exact card you will receive.
