Beautiful antique two-piece washstand set by W. E. Corn, England, comprising a large water jug/pitcher and matching wash basin in the Flores pattern.
A wonderfully decorative period set with colourful floral sprays in pink, blue, yellow and earthy tones against a warm cream ground. Both pieces have elaborate moulded detailing and scalloped edges, finished with ornate metallic/gilt decoration which has mellowed considerably with age.
The jug is particularly impressive, with an elaborate moulded spout, sweeping handle and generously proportioned body. Both pieces carry the matching W. E. Corn / Royal / England / Porcelaines / Flores backstamp.
A fabulous statement piece for an antique or period interior – ideal for a Victorian-style bedroom or bathroom, cottage décor, washstand display, floral arrangement or decorative prop.
Approximate measurements:
Jug: approx. 30–31cm / 12" tall
Basin: approx. 40cm / 16" across and 12–13cm deep
Condition:
Antique condition with considerable character and age-related wear. There is widespread crazing to the glaze and substantial rubbing, darkening and loss to the metallic/gilt decoration, particularly around the rims and raised areas. The jug has hairline cracking around the base/underside as photographed. There are also general marks, discolouration and manufacturing imperfections commensurate with age.
Please study all photographs carefully as these form an important part of the condition description.
