Art Deco Five Light Slip Shade Chandelier – Attributed To Markel
A superb original American Art Deco five light slip shade ceiling chandelier, dating to circa 1930s & attributed to Markel Electric Products of Buffalo, New York.
The light features five matching moulded amber glass slip shades, each with beautifully stylised scalloped & fan-like decoration, set within an ornate dark bronze-finished cast metal frame.
The pierced suspension has a particularly attractive geometric & foliate Art Deco design, giving the light a wonderfully architectural appearance when hung.
The overall look is classic American 1930s Art Deco & closely follows known Markel lighting of the period.
Diameter: 42cm
Approximate Hanging Height: 60cm
All five glass shades are present & in very good condition with no chips or cracks noted.
There are some age-related marks & wear to the metalwork, entirely consistent with age & use, but overall the light presents extremely well.
The chandelier came from a local deceased estate house clearance & was in working order when removed from the property.
However, due to the age of the fitting, we would always recommend that the wiring & electrical components are inspected by a suitably qualified electrician prior to installation.
No maker’s mark has currently been identified, therefore the Markel attribution is based upon design, construction & comparison with known period examples.
A very striking & highly decorative original Art Deco ceiling light, particularly desirable with its complete set of five matching amber slip shades.
