1997 JR East Stamp Rally — Mt. Fuji Surfing Pikachu + Bonus Flying Pikachu
A special two-card vintage Pikachu offering featuring two iconic Japanese Old Back artworks.
The main card in this listing is the Japanese Surfing Pikachu (なみのりピカチュウ) No.025, distributed as a special prize during the 1997 JR East Pokémon Stamp Rally.
The event was held in Tokyo from August 9–17, 1997, with participants traveling around the Yamanote Line collecting Pokémon stamps from its 30 participating stations.
Participants who completed all 30 stations received a special two-card prize featuring Surfing Pikachu and Mew.
🗻 The “Mt. Fuji Surfing Pikachu”
This version is especially recognizable for its unique Japanese artwork.
Behind the surfing Pikachu are Mt. Fuji and a Japanese train, immediately distinguishing it from the better-known CoroCoro version of Surfing Pikachu.
Because of this artwork, the card is commonly referred to by collectors as the “Mt. Fuji Surfing Pikachu.”
Another important distinction is the card stock:
The CoroCoro version was printed on glossy stock, while this JR Stamp Rally version uses regular/non-glossy card stock.

Also included with this listing is a Japanese Old Back Flying Pikachu (そらをとぶピカチュウ) No.025.
The Flying Pikachu is included as a bonus at no additional charge and is part of this exact two-card purchase.
Both cards were acquired together from the same previous owner and both successfully passed Mercari Japan’s authentication service.

🔐 Mercari Authenticated — BOTH Cards
Both the Surfing Pikachu and bonus Flying Pikachu successfully passed Mercari Japan’s authentication service.
The two cards were acquired together, and Mercari authentication was applied during the acquisition process.
After authentication, each card was returned individually sealed in Mercari’s authenticated packaging with its authentication seal.
Neither authenticated package has been opened since being received from Mercari.
The Mercari authentication paperwork and authenticated packaging shown in the listing photographs are included.
Please note that authentication was simply part of the acquisition process for these particular cards. JPN Warehouse does not knowingly handle counterfeit trading cards, regardless of whether a third-party authentication service is used.

📦 Condition
HP (Heavily Played) — Surfing Pikachu
The Surfing Pikachu shows significant age- and play-related wear, including surface wear/scratching and noticeable edge and corner wear, particularly visible on the reverse.
The previous owner listed the cards as “scratched and dirty / 傷や汚れあり.” Because both cards are now sealed in their post-authentication packaging, JPN Warehouse has not removed them for a new bare-card inspection.
Our HP designation for the Surfing Pikachu is intentionally conservative and has been evaluated with eBay’s official trading card condition guidelines as the reference.
The photographs showing the cards outside of the authenticated packaging were provided by the previous owner and taken before Mercari authentication. These images are included so buyers can more clearly evaluate the condition of the actual cards.
Please carefully inspect all listing photographs before purchasing.
We will not open either authenticated package to perform additional condition checks or take new photographs of the bare cards.
The exact two authenticated and sealed cards shown in this listing are the cards you will receive.
The Flying Pikachu is supplied as a bonus vintage card and should likewise be expected to show age/play-related wear. No separate condition grade is being assigned to the bonus card.

🔎 About the Authentication Packaging
The authentication seals and packaging have been left exactly as received from Mercari.
Opening or removing either card would defeat the purpose of preserving its post-authentication state, so both cards will be shipped still sealed inside their respective Mercari-authenticated packaging.
The authentication documentation shown in the photographs will also accompany the cards.

Both authenticated packages will receive additional rigid protection and waterproof packaging for international shipment.
The Mercari authentication packaging itself will not be opened or altered before shipping.
