Antique Indian Hand-Carving Wooden Paduka Sandals - Pair

* Condition Details: This matching pair of primitive footwear is in beautiful antique condition. The wood exhibits an incredible naturally weathered patina with clear hand-tool carving marks on the underside platforms. As described, there is some normal wear and a tiny bit of missing wood chipping right near the base of the toe knobs from actual historic wear. Both vertical toe pegs are securely anchored and intact.

* Historical Significance: A wonderful example of traditional ethnographic folk art, these are Indian Padukas (or Khatau). They feature a distinct curved silhouette reminiscent of a violin shape, designed with elevated toe and heel blocks to keep the wearer raised off the bare earth. The wearer grips the upright knob between the first and second toes. They make for an exceptional conversational display piece, unique bookends, or addition to a collection of historic world attire.
