Marvel Spotlight #2 features a striking horror-themed cover penciled by Neal Adams and inked by Tom Palmer.
Adams’ dramatic composition helped establish the darker visual identity of Marvel’s early 1970s horror titles and makes this issue particularly recognizable among Bronze Age collectors.
The combination of the Neal Adams cover and the first appearance of Werewolf by Night gives the issue appeal beyond character collectors alone.
Marvel Spotlight #2 introduces Jack Russell and reveals the origin of Werewolf by Night.
As Jack approaches his eighteenth birthday, he learns of a curse that has affected his family for generations. After his mother reveals the truth while on her deathbed, Jack begins undergoing his own terrifying transformation into a werewolf.
At the same time, he begins to suspect that his stepfather may have been responsible for his mother’s death.
The story establishes Jack Russell’s supernatural origins and launches the Werewolf by Night character into the Marvel Universe.
Jack Russell became one of the cornerstone characters of Marvel’s 1970s supernatural line.
Following his debut in Marvel Spotlight #2, Werewolf by Night continued through additional Marvel Spotlight issues before receiving his own ongoing series.
The character later became closely associated with other supernatural Marvel figures and stories, including Moon Knight, who would make his own first appearance in Werewolf by Night #32.

All graded comics (“slabs”) are the exact items shown in photos.
I am not a professional grader. All raw comics are sold as-is and are described to the best of my ability. Please review photos carefully, as they are of the exact items you will receive. Any visible defects, including spine ticks, corner wear, or foil imperfections, are shown in photos. I make no guarantees of grading outcomes.
Slabbed books (CGC/CBCS) may have minor scuffs, scratches, or display Newton Rings, a rainbow-like effect caused by the case. These are cosmetic only and do not affect the comic’s grade or condition.
If cosmetic case imperfections are a concern, buyers may submit the books to CGC for a reholder service. Please note that reholdering is handled entirely by CGC, and any outcome, such as changes to label designation, grader notes, or grade, is determined solely by CGC’s internal review process.
