Although he was best known for all the Westerns he appeared in during his career, John Wayne got a few chances to play the romantic lead in his earlier films. One notable example is 1942's Lady for a Night, a drama set in the Old South--a tale of greed, gambling and murder! This still takes place during a short interlude before the drama really gets going and features Ray Middleton, Guy Usher and Joan Blondell, who plays the part of John Wayne's love interest.
