The GE AR Argon Glow Lamp is a vintage tube lamp with a purple light color and a retro/vintage style.

It operates on 105-120V with a 2-1/2W bulb wattage and features low heat, filament-free technology.

This energy-saving lamp is ideal for indoor use and has a bulb life of 1,000 hours.

Made in the 1940s by General Electric, this unique light bulb is a collectible piece that adds a touch of vintage vibe to any space with its glow discharge lighting technology and antique design.

It should be noted that this is a very early example of this bulb, as far as the information I’ve been able to glean from the net. They eventually made this not just the AR but the AR-1 and eventually the W1A bulb. But when compared to other bulbs of this type, there is some noticeable differences and the modifications they made to the manufacturing.

As you can see from the pictures, I plugged this bulb into my Vac and slowly started turning the voltage up and it ignited at 62.2 V. (first three pictures of it while glowing)

I turned it up to 102 V and that’s the first picture you (fourth glowing picture)

I turned the voltage up to 111 V (the fifth glowing picture)

And for the last check I turned up the voltage to 118 V (the last 2 pictures)

While lowering the voltage it finally extinguished at 55 V (not pictured)

The bulb is working fantastically has a beautiful purple glow and would make a great addition to any dark room or for vintage black light aesthetic
