Marcel Masson was self-taught and began his artistic career by working on theatre and cinema decors.
He exhibited at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and the Salon Populiste in Paris and was also a member of the Salon des Artistes Français, Salon des Indépendants, Salon de l'Art Libre and Salon de l'École Française. He took part in group exhibitions in Zurich, Neuchâtel, Beirut, Montreal, São Paulo and Caracas. His numerous prizes include the Prix Hamon in 1959, and the Premier Prix de Montmartre in homage to Maurice Utrillo. He gave solo exhibitions in Paris, Toulouse, Casablanca and Bern. He painted landscapes of the old streets of Paris, especially Montmartre, as well as seascapes and rural landscapes.
